Memorable Sibling Combos (part 2)

Uddin Brothers
When I was younger I used to hang out in West Island and there I was introduced to Anas & Yousuf.
Uddin. Omar Khan (who is NOT my west island alter ego) introduced us in a Halaqa of some sort. The Uddin brothers represent what hard work can achieve. Both Anas and Yusuf weren’t known to be hockey players, but their persistence, hard work, and hustle proved that dedication can take you to high level of hockey. I have seen these brothers transform from role players to elite defenders. The only thing I don’t understand is the love of the color pink, and banyans. It must be a Hyderabadi thing.
Much like their former team name, Team Love (or Team Pink) these brothers are known for their loving nature, and generosity. Saad their older brother who I had the pleasure of playing with one tournament is perhaps one of the funniest guys to hang with. His upbeat personality and tenacious defense makes his a solid addition to any team looking for a quality defenceman.

Chughtai Brothers
I was sitting in the basement of Faraz, Hammad, and Saad’s house. (Memorable Brothers for very different reasons) I was there for a dawat where I met the Chughtai brothers. All I remembered was that Ammar was wearing a baseball hat and he took forever to tell a story. He was absolute fun to hang with, what I did find out in the next West Island hockey was how awesome he was. You rarely see players with the combination of intensity and composure seen in any of the Chughtai brothers. They play with their hearts out every single shift, and they never lose their cool or character. This is probably because of their love of the Colorado Avalanche (I still don’t get it).
One thing that stands out in Ammar is his loyalty to his brothers. Time and time again he is sought after to play on “elite teams” and time and time again he rejects them to play with his brothers. To be fair, his brothers often return the favor by providing highlight moments. (See Chughtai Khannate vs Green Army).
I must say it is in my bucket list to play with the Chughtai brothers once in an MMBH tournament.

Ilyas & Yusuf Rashid
Ilyas Rashid is arguably the greatest defenceman in MMBH history. A perfect combination size, speed, skill. My greatest moment as MMBH GM was to convince both Ilyas and Yusuf Rashid to play for Mameluks. (Granted Ilyas probably said yes because he was too nice, and my elder brother may have had a key hand in acquiring him. But I digress).
In order to appreciate a player like Ilyas and Yusuf, you need to see how they play with players not seen as elite. They helped elevate young stars like Zohaib Ahmed and Ali Virk to the next level. Yusuf was probably one the most supportive and talented goalies you can find.
My stint as a goalie was short lived for multiple reasons, however the two individuals that offered me plenty of helpful advice were Sharaz Yunis and Yusuf. I spoke to Yusuf before my only tournament as a goalie and his advice is one I not only use but pass on to other goalies.

Haris & Uzair Nami
There are few people that possess the leadership quality of Captain Ihram. You know him as his stage name Atif Godil. The only other person I have seen that possesses similar qualities is Harris Nami.
Tenacious on defence and a natural leader through words and actions, he compliments his younger brother Uzair well.
I am one person that makes bold predictions that never come true. However today I believe my luck will change, I believe that within two years Uzair Nami will be recognized as one of the premier players in the tournament. He has a Pacioretty style of play and is continuing to grow as a player. Hopefully he doesn’t read this and try to prove me wrong.
Hamaad doesn’t make the cut. And their (non-existent) sister Sue/Tsu is famous for the wrong reasons.
